Design Process 1 is an exciting subject to begin with and is by no means a small subject area, ideally it will be explored and used by you throughout your studies and beyond.
Design Process 1 explains what a concept is, lists creative thinking techniques and provides some examples of elements and principles and lots of visuals i.e. sketch drawings.
It also explains how we communicate via visual response - images and words, primarily 2D forms; drawing writing, photography. It describes the different stages of a project and when to employ these visuals.
Assessment 1 and the accompanying Learning Tasks asks you to explore your visual response to exercises, requires some conceptual thinking, some creativity, experimentation with mixed media, identification of drawings and a keen eye.
Our advice, try not to over think these Learning Tasks. Approach each with a design solution that you develop and track through a process of experimentation, problem solving, reflection and capturing your process. Enjoy these exercises, use them to help you apply the knowledge you learn, as you learn and prepare you for the Assessments.

LEARNING TASK 1: COMMUNICATING IDEAS
This Learning Task asks you to use the provided list of 10 words and phrases and your black fine line marker pencil to communicate your initial interpretation and ideas as quickly as you can.
Consider the game of pictionary which as your recall you need to be quick. Use sketching as a means of getting down your ideas quickly, this task will help you to think on your feet and capture your initial ideas.

LEARNING TASK 2: CREATE THREE CONCEPTS OF AN IDEA
This Learning Task asks you to create three (3) simple concept ideas for 'bunk desks' and show sketching, notetaking and research in your visual diary.
Consider how objects have been used in the past. Think also about the idea of elevation, stacking, volume, vertical, being upright as well as the notion of up-and-down. Put your creative hat on and start sketching.

LEARNING TASK 3: IDENTIFY DRAWING TYPES & PURPOSES
This Learning Task asks you to observe and identify the type and purpose of each design drawing.
LEARNING TASK 4: ARRANGEMENTS USING THE P'S & E'S
This Learning Task asks you to use the existing shapes and create your own arrangements to express representations of the elements and principles of design.

LEARNING TASK 5: IDENTIFY THE P'S & E'S IN INTERIORS
This Learning Task asks you to use review the supplied images and identify the elements and principles of design that you can see. Artist graphic representation is certainly encouraged here as per our examples provided.
